The Cocos Island FinchThe Cocos Island Finch (Pinaroloxias inornata) is one of the most abundant bird species in the Cocos Island. Endemic to the island, the Cocos Island Finch is considered to be "chunky", weighing about 12.5 grams. Males are entirely black, while females are brown with a paler underside. The young are similar to the females but have yellow bills.
The Cocos Island Finch have adapted to all habitats on the Cocos Island. From the Hibiscus thickets along the coast to open and closed rain forests, they can be found almost everywhere on the island. In fact, there are approximately 7-13 thousand individuals living on the island. It survives on a wide range of plants and insects.
